The Australian Constitution: is the supreme law under which the Australian Commonwealth Government operates.
LawAccess: LawAccess Online has plain language legal information including factsheets and guides to help you with your legal issues.
AustLii: Legislation, Regulations and Court Cases
ComLaw: complete and up-to-date collection of Commonwealth legislation available.
Hansard: Parliamentary Speeches often provide insight into the parliamentary intention in the making of pieces of legislation.
Judical Commission NSW Benchbooks: Benchbooks are practical information published to assist a judge or magistrate. Bench Books are essentially working aids provided for judicial officers, specially tailored to the needs of each jurisdiction.
Lawlink: Online portal to law and justice agencies and services in New South Wales, hosted by the Department of Justice and Attorney-General.
Attorney-General’s Department: The AG Department provides essential expert support to the Government in the maintenance and improvement of Australia’s system of law and justice and its national security and emergency management systems. This site contains information and links to the areas of law that comes under the Department’s scope, which includes criminal and family law.
Legal Aid NSW: this site provides information on the range of services available to people who need advice, assistance and representation, and who qualify for legal aid. It also provides other useful information on various areas of law dealt with by Legal Aid.
Parliament of Australia: information on the Parliament, as well as its publications.
Criminal Law
Children’s Court: Children and Young Persons charged with a criminal offence are dealt with in the Children’s Court of that relevant state. This site has information on the applicable law and practice of the Children’s Court of NSW.
Public Defender’s ‘Defender Bank’: useful legal research material produced by Public Defenders (barristers who appear in serious criminal matters for clients who have a grant of legal aid).
Criminal Law Review Division: a part of the Department of Justice and Attorney General NSW, this division provides advice to the State AG about all aspects of criminal law.
Family Law
Family Law Courts: A wealth of information on Family Law in Australia, including court forms, fees and publications.
Family Court of Australia: Website for the FCA, including court list, judgments, contact details and eServices.
Federal Magistrates Court of Australia: Website for the FMC, including court forms, fees, contact details and areas of law dealt with by the FMC.
Commonwealth Court Portal: The CCP is an initiative of the Family Court of Australia, Federal Court of Australia and Federal Magistrates Court of Australia. It provides web-based services for clients to access information about cases before the courts.
Relationships Australia: Website to a leading provider of relationship support services all around Australia, offering services that include counselling, family dispute resolution (mediation) and a range of family and community support and education programs.
Care and Protection
Children’s Court: The Children’s Court of NSW deals with care and protections cases in NSW. This site has information on the applicable law and practice of the Children’s Court.
Department of Human Services (aka ‘DOCS’): This is the direct link to the section of DOCS that deals with children alleged to be at risk of harm.
Property Law & Conveyancing
Land and Property Management Authority: information on land and property regulation in NSW.
NSW Office of State Revenue: information on land tax, First Home benefits, compliance and various publications.
Legal Advisors
Law Society of NSW: represents and regulates solicitors practicing in NSW.
Bar Association of NSW: information regarding barristers practicing in NSW.
